Design for Drivers: The Optimal Connected Car

Currently, there is a major disconnect between the multi-year development cycles of automakers and consumer expectations for smart devices. Automakers can’t keep pace with the fast-moving software updates brought about by tech companies and the result is a user experience that is vastly outdated for drivers that use a number of smart devices day-to-day. Change lies in automakers working with tech companies that understand designing optimal user interfaces that are both beautiful and intuitive. In addition, both parties must consider how to make the transition from phone to car seamless, while also eliminating distracted driving. The market is currently in an experiential stage and automakers are rethinking everything from system placement to iconography. Each player is vying to develop the user interface that will set the industry standard. Peter will explain how smart device makers can build on their UI experience to disrupt the market and usher in the era of connected cars.
