Healthcare technology is rarely designed with the patient in mind and designing a better experience is a daunting task. To make an impact, designers need to arm themselves with a mission, passion, and a patient mindset.
Twelve years ago when Abbe Don’s partner was diagnosed with breast cancer, the patient decision support tools available were woefully inadequate, frustrating and hard to use. As a designer, she knew there had to be a better way.
In this intimate talk, Abbe will share how her experience as a caregiver shaped her thinking about design and the patient experience. She will present real-world examples of mission-driven designs that are transforming healthcare.
Abbe will provide an unvarnished look at how far we have come in healthcare UX, how far we still need to go, and why having a mission is crucial. In an interactive exercise she will challenge session participants to find their mission and use it as a springboard for innovative design and problem solving.
