Growing Up Unprotected: Child ID Theft

Children are 51 times more likely to have their identities stolen than adults. Now that children have a digital footprint at an early age, identity thieves have found an easier route to take advantage of children’s unused social security numbers to secure thousands of dollars in loans and credit – and go undetected for years.
While most parents understand the dangers of online predators, nearly half of parents are unaware that child identity theft is a growing problem. Children with stolen identities can have difficulty applying to colleges, opening savings accounts or credit cards and may have thousands of dollars of fraudulent debt associated with their name.
In this discussion, online child safety advocates Cris Crosby CEO of Inflection Point Global and Managing Director of SociallyActive.com and Clay Nichols from LookOut Social will explore today’s digital landscape of child identity as it relates to our social and professional lives.
