The evolution of brand and reputation management marks the emergence of a new element of a organization’s image that we call Character. This is about competitive advantage. Attitudes towards corporations have changed. The economic, political and social climate, combined with advancing communications tech, has created a public that expects direct communication with organizations and transparency about their impact on society. The impact of that shift is compounded by the democratizing nature of the digital world. Online, we can now gather together whenever we want, from wherever we want to discuss issues and identify common ground. Organizations can no longer assume that brand perceptions are limited to the product or service they offer and are putting their market share at risk if they are not broadening their approach to public engagement This panel will explore the broad topic of corporate character, and how the public’s role in the decisions companies make everyday is evolving.
