False Volumes, Real Letters

Mostly known for his volume suggesting lettering work, Dado was once regarded as a "3D type magician" by renowned typographer Ale Paul—even though, perhaps more impressively, all his designs are made entirely in 2D.
At SXSW, the designer will share an honest examination of the development of his visual style so far. Amongst seemingly unrelated external influences, obsession with forms and love for expression, the sometimes erratic evolution of key visual techniques will be explained in context, accompanied by thorough breakdowns of rather complex pieces, that offer comprehensive insight into the process.
This is a revised and condensed version of the original talk held at the Type Directors Club in New York in 2013.
